ABOUT HAPAHELP

WHO WE ARE?

HapaHelp Foundation was established in 2021, registered as an NGO under Tanzanian Act, No. 24(2002), legislation No. 00NG0/R2213. Although we are nationally registered, services are currently focused in the Ruvuma Region. As a non-profit organization, our work is aimed at alleviating the immediate suffering of impoverished children, elders and women, and to strengthen their hopes for a better future. Improving the wellbeing and opportunities for women is another priority due to their critical role in the family and society. Because poverty affects almost every aspect of their lives, a variety of health, educational, economical and social supports are necessary to enable very disadvantaged citizens to thrive, to strengthen families, and to improve the overall community.

Vision for Our Community

A community of citizens where families and individuals can access supports to achieve health & safety and to further opportunities for education and economic growth.

Mission / Purpose Statement

The purpose of HapaHelp is to provide economic, social, and educational supports to disadvantaged members of the local community, particularly elders, children, women.  The need for supports has resulted from a variety of factors including illness, disability, lack of economic or educational opportunities, and/or geographic isolation from services.  To achieve these goals, HapaHelp will work with individuals receiving supports, community leaders and elders, other NGO’s, and governmental agencies who demonstrate our belief in the power of collaboration to bring about change.

Our Values

  • Respect for all individuals, regardless of religion, race, status, gender, age, ability.
  • Belief in the potential of people to advance through sharing of economic resources, collaboration of ideas, and contribution of individual talents.
  • Pride in our Tanzanian identity and the characteristics of welcome, sharing, industriousness, and peace.

WHAT WE DO

Education

HapaHelp Foundation believes that education is a pillar of individual and community development, a need that begins in early childhood, and continues throughout our lifespans to keep pace with the changes in society!

HapaHelp collaborates with local government authorities (TAMISEMI) to identify children, families and school settings in need of financial or material supports. This may include providing basic school supplies, transportation to school, or improvements to a school setting to ensure facilities are adequate to achieve learning, health and safety.

Health

The health status of needy children, elders, and women is impacted by inadequate nutrition and clothing, poor housing and sanitation, and lack of access to timely medical treatment. It is critically important to address health needs so that their ability to succeed in education, care for the family, and to be gainfully employed are not also negatively affected.

In addition to contributing to basic nutrition and emergency food supplies for families, HapaHelp may provide health information and support to access health treatments in the local health facilities.

HapaHelp also advocates with community authorities to address conditions that endanger health and safety of citizens such as unsanitary conditions or lack of safe drinking water.

Agriculture

Another pillar of development for families and the entire community is the advancement of agriculture. Research shows that progress in agriculture can contribute to poverty reduction beyond a direct effect on farmer's incomes by improving nutrition and sustaining the environment. Agricultural development also stimulates economic development outside of the agricultural sector and leads to higher job and business growth of the entire community, both urban and rural.  As food supplies increase, food prices are also reduced.

HapaHelp Foundation give seeds and provides education to citizens on a variety of issues related to growth of agriculture, including agri-business training, watershed development, market linkage, farm productivity improvement, and increasing farm income /livelihood development.

Community Projects

HapaHelp partners with government representatives and other organizations to address the causes of poverty. Projects such as expanding access to safe drinking water will improve the immediate and long-term health and sanitation in the community. Expanding health care services and facilities that all citizens can access will increase resiliency and reduce incidence of disease. Developing employment training programs and business opportunities for youth, women, and families will also contribute to self-sustainability of citizens and the reduction of poverty.

Livelihood

HapaHelp recognizes that the lack of employment opportunities and skill training opportunities contributes to persistent cycles of poverty. However, experts in community development advise that it is necessary to address not only unemployment, but the forementioned multiple factors in order to overcome inter-related challenges. Additionally, opportunities must be provided early in life to increase the abilities and hope of the citizens.
